The Engagement Committee meets 4-6 times a year (hybrid) to look at how to improve the way that children, young people and families are involved and work with health services. The committee has a fixed number of places for volunteers who go through an expression of interest process when there is a vacancy and do a 2 year term. There are 10 young people’s places (aged 14-23), 6 for parents/carers, 6 for paediatricians and 2 for other groups like youth led charities or medical students. We have volunteers who come from all over the UK and who have different health experiences and interests. The chair of the committee is Dr Bhanu Williams, Assistant Registrar for RCPCH.
The Committee’s current priorities are:
- Workforce training and development on engagement with children and young people
- Engagement tools on hot topics in paediatrics
- Engagement and voice in paediatric exams and assessments
- Expert advice
